Your Mare’s Safety, Health, Delivery and Pick Up

At DeGraff Stables/Liberty Farm we look forward to your mare’s arrival and to making the breeding season a very enjoyable experience for all.  We do ask you to PLEASE respect that many of the personnel at our farm also live here on the premisis.  While we are a ‘around the clock’ facility during foaling season, those that receive and release horses work the day shift, not late afternoons, evening or during the night.  Therefore, we ask that you schedule your mare’s delivery or pickup to be within our normal working hours: Monday – Saturday from 7:30am to 4:30pm each day.

You will find very stringent rules regarding the health requirements of any horses that are delivered to the farm. Please contact us at least two weeks in advance to confirm all details and for us to prepare for your mare’s arrival. For breeding to an On Farm Stallion or, to a Stallion that resides at a different breeding farm, we will direct you to review your 2010 On Farm Mare Breeding, Boarding and/or Foaling Contract for the exact details.

We require the Mare Disclosure Form (included in your Breeding Document Set) provided to the farm a minimum of 5 days prior to the arrival of your horse to the farm.  The 2010 On Farm Mare Information & Disclosure Statement identifies the mare’s past breeding and foaling history, vaccination, blacksmith, deworming and health records. With proper notice, we are even able to obtain any special dietary requirements in advance of her delivery to the farm.

In addition a veterinarian’s health certificate is required and confirms the vaccination schedule that has been administered to the mare(s) a Negative Coggins is required as is a Negative EVA Blood Titre within 30 days of arrival to the farm.  NOTE: the EVA Blood Titre can take up to 2 weeks to obtain the results; so, please … plan ahead!  We also require that all vaccinations required must have been administered a minimum of 14 days prior to arrival and not more than 30 days and 60 days prior for certain vaccinations.

We do not intend for this to cause a hardship and realize that it is not always easy to coordinate shipping arrangements. However, our responsibility is to provide for the safety and health of each horse that enters our facility including yours. If the vaccinations are not current and within the requirements we may require that your mare is placed in a quarantine area if space allows. This does involve additional costs. If the space is not available, we will work with you to reschedule your delivery until compliance is met.

Once your mare arrives, she will go through a series of locations in the barn as we provide for her to enter the barns where existing mares reside. This is done over a two week period.

At the time of pick up, please give us at least 2 – 3 day notice so that we may prepare your final invoice along with a complete set of breeding documents for your records.
